It was times like this that he really missed New York. As nice as Washington, DC, was, there were just some things that could only be found in the comforts of home. Fishing the key from his pocket, Gabriel took the stairs up to the front stoop two at a time as he turned the key in the lock and stepped into the foyer. "Mom? Pete?" Gabriel called as he closed the door behind him. "Hello? Anyone home?" He called, laughter in his voice. "Ally ally oxen free! Come out, come out wherever you are!"

All right, maybe that was a little childish. He was thirty, and his brother was grown (not to mention, likely not here what with the way he and Mom had been bickering lately), but he really couldn't help it sometimes. "Is anyone going to answer me? Consuela?" Gabriel called, pausing for a moment before calling the name again, grinning as a thin, middle aged Latino woman headed down the stairs into the foyer.

"What is this? You make such a fuss in your mother's house? What if we had had guests?"

"Then they would have had something to talk about on the way home other than the fact that the color scheme in the dining room has changed," Gabriel countered, a teasing grin on his face as he scooped the housekeeper up into a hug, ignoring her squeaks of protest.

"Oooooh, you, child. You are hopeless," She huffed once she was back on her feet, smacking her hand lightly against his chest in reproach.

"Where is everyone?"

"Not here, obviously. Your brothers are at work. Search me where your mother went off to. The number of secrets that woman keeps, it's lucky I know where she is when she's in the house."

"Can I wait?"

"You're asking me, child? It's your house. I just work here," She replied with a laugh, waving him into the sitting room. "Shouldn't be too long. You know how to keep yourself occupied."

"That I do," He replied brightly as he slipped into the room and cross over immediately to one of the bookshelves. If he found a good one, he wouldn't even realize the time had passed.
